Tomorrow, just for fun, (and since I'm not going anyplace today!), a little Halloween Home Tour at the Corbridges. Here's a taste...
Doug has gone back to work this morning. I'm improving. Being sick with the flu is not fun. But, being sick when your husband is sick is even worse! Doug is so healthy all the time and when he gets sick, it wipes him out completely. For him to miss three days of work and stay in bed for five, that's sick! Whatever we had, we're both assuming the oinky flu because it knocked us both out so hard, was not fun. We did discuss last night, the fact that, if this was, indeed, the oinky flu, it was not nearly as bad as what we'd expected, but if this was not, N1H1 flu, then we'd hate to see the real thing because this one was bad!! Being this sick together meant that nothing got done this past week, except rest. Not for lack of want, but because we just plain couldn't do a thing! This was not an easy flu! And so, where we couldn't, others did.
- The kids did a "service project" for Dad...they finished up in the garden, pulling up all of the tomato plants and harvesting the tomatoes that we had left, to store in the garage and still ripen for another month. They entertained themselves together, played well together, prayed for us together and even went to bed at night without being asked. So far, the girls are healthy and Quayd stayed home from school in bed with a headache. Ugh. No fever yet! Thankfully!
- Our amazing friends have brought in dinners and lunches and treats since last Friday. Doug and I have commented several times that we are truly blessed with great friends and neighbors. I had to laugh when I received a "casserole" by email from Marilyn. She called it a "New Moon Casserole", an iTunes gift card for the New Moon CD with a note, "I hope you LOVE the casserole!" (We'd be dangerous if we lived any closer.)
- Liza, Brooke's mom and Brooke's friend, Sarah picked up where I left off with the baby shower, which we moved to the church instead of here at our sick house. Barbie cooked, Sarah did the games, Liza decorated and pulled it all together. She came over long enough to get what she needed and decorated and set up the shower. She returned four hours later to report that the food was fabulous, the games were fun and that my favorite niece, Brooke, received, most graciously, some wonderful gifts. Liza came in long enough to clean the dishes and put things away. She couldn't leave quick enough, trying not to get whatever it is we have had! I love my daughter!
We've been blessed!
- This photo is one of my most favorite birthday gifts. Marilyn bought me these new knobs for my newly refinished $15 corner cabinet. Aren't they fabulous! She actually bought three sets of knobs and let me choose the ones that I wanted. They were all awesome and it was a hard choice! But, these were the winners! Doug's still laughing at me for refinishing this cabinet and then distressing it to make it look old. I love it!
- I've been thinking about some things as a result of a mistake made recently by someone who I'm certain "just didn't think". Sometimes, we just don't think. Sometimes, acting without thinking has it's repercussions and brings regret. Things that start as harmless and fun, end up hurting others, doing damage unintentionally. Just think! Before you act, ask, "HOW will this affect others around me?" As I tell my babes every single morning, "MAKE GOOD CHOICES!" Sick Sophia stepping down now. Enough said. Have a wonderful day!
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.
I hope you and Doug are feeling better. I finally broke down and got a flu shot this year. I felt a little off yesterday because of it, but am feeling fine today. I highly recommend it.
