Well, I did go to the doctor on Friday morning and was informed that I have bronchitis and put on some nice antibiotic. I'd called for the appointment and said that I was supposed to be going out of town at 11, so they got me in immediately. I walked out of the doctor's office at five till eleven. The doctor advised, "If you want my honest opinion, I'd stay home. You need the rest and no one will get any because you'll be coughing all night and keep everyone up. However, I have a feeling you're going to go anyway, so I'm going to send you with a mask."
I came home, called the GNO group and shared the doctor's advise, giving them all a choice of postponing our weekend until after the holidays or going without me. I liked Natalie's advise better than the doctor's. "You will get more rest at the ranch than you will at home because at home, you'll still be Mom, cooking, doing laundry.... At the ranch, you can rest and not worry about a thing." Everyone agreed. Thank you, Doctor Natalie.
And. So. Off we went for our overnighter of fun and laughter and food. I'm not sure which we had the most of. We'd actually discussed the possibility of a Ranch GNO with only healthy treats or none at all. But why!? It's only a few times a year. So, we make up for all the treatless days during the rest of the year in one night! We laughed until we cried, watched two old movies and tried to play one game. We got to the first question which led to a discussion that two hours later, we were ready for the next. That's what happens when good friends, all women who like to talk get together. We do! I won't mention what time we went to bed, but the doctor said rest, not sleep, right?
I did rest. I didn't wash a dish, cook a thing, clean a thing. I was taken care of. I have no voice but still did my share of talking. (Imagine that.) It was great to get away even if I wasn't feeling my best. I'm convinced that laughter really is the best medicine. What a gift to have such fun and caring friends!
A few ramblings:
- My friend, Susan, from Ohio, who I've known since before Kelly was born, sent me a link to share that there's a new Straight No Chaser Christmas CD. That's a second one! I discovered them last year and ranted all season about them. It's awesome! I shared the "Christmas Can-Can" with Doug last night and he laughed out loud! Very fun... a must for Christmas!
- I did go to church because Quayd was to give his first talk in Sacrament Meeting. He'd been prepared since Wednesday, so when I got home from the ranch, he was ready to review it with me a few more times. He had it more than half memorized. He came upstairs yesterday morning, dressed in his suit, ready to go an hour before the girls were even awake. And he did a great job. He spoke softly and had to have the mike pulled closer but he did a great job. We even had phone calls from ward members to tell him all afternoon. How thoughtful is that! I love our ward. I love my boy!
- We'll be putting up the holiday decor on the weekend of the 20th! That works for our schedule and I will be able to focus on Thanksgiving all the next week!
- Sarah sent me this little meme. It was short and sweet and telling of what's on my mind! ;)

That's it on this beautiful lovely and bright Monday morning! I'm off to lunch with a friend and home for more much needed rest. "Yeh, right", Doug would say.
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because some day in life you will have been all of these.
Hey! I need to know how to make your Shepherd's Pie. My family won't eat it, so I was going to make some and split it with Lizard. BUT....I don't know how you make yours, and since it's Liza's favorite, I figured I had better find out! Thanks!
