Last night, I taught a little mini-class for the Young Women in our ward about decorating/organizing their rooms. I kept it short and sweet and did not take half the house with me because we decided that in January, after my girls have their rooms completed and after my friend Natalie is done with her daughter's room, we're going to have a Bedroom type home tour for the Young Women and give them more specific examples. I shared some quick and inexpensive ideas on how to spiff up their rooms on a dime, tips on organizing and making their rooms a representation of themselves. As I told them, the quickest way to spice up your room is to clean it! which for most teens, that could make a world of difference!
After my little presentation, the girls made jewelry hangers out of old frames. I've yet to make my own but plan on that before the week is over! I'll share a little tutorial when I do. Juli had the most brilliant idea to spray paint them all instead of brush painting, which made for one very quick project! All in all, I think that all sixteen girls had a good time. I know I did!
I've not worked in the Young Women for years (and I really don't want to now...maybe when my own girls are there) but I can't imagine a better bunch of girls to be with than the girls in our ward. They are respectful and courteous and they all have just the most wholesome attitudes. I was impressed.
Gracie is most excited about all of this excitement for two reasons. She's realizing that she's only a year away from going to Young Womens. Now that Quayd goes to Young Mens, she's very aware that she's next! AND....
She's totally excited about her new bedroom makeover. She talks about it constantly. Even her teachers told me last week which paint color she had. She has asked for nothing but "room stuff" and can hardly wait to find new bedding under the tree. ZJ is in the same mode, simply because of her big sister. I don't think that we'll see too many toys this Christmas under the tree because no one's asking. NO complaints from me! I have to laugh every time Gracie mentions her list... new bedding and colored socks. According to Gracie, colored socks are a fashion statement and white socks just keep your feet warm. Colored socks it is.
ZJ has decided to sell her "little girl" kitchen. It's darling and we paid $120 for it at TRU. I've been going to put it on Craigslist for a few weeks. I hate having to price things to sell. Any suggestions on that one? Better yet, anyone local that's interested? It's in good shape and she's including some food and dishes. It's the cutest kitchen I'd ever seen and actually matches the the colors in her newly painted room quite well but she wants a desk in it's spot to do her scrapbooking! Ya gotta love that!
I'm trying to make up for lost time since we all started our rounds of the flu! My goal for the day is to get things in order and do some organizing and last minute dejunking so that the Christmas decorations can come out next weekend! Gee, and I might want to make a grocery list for Thanksgiving dinner soon. It's two weeks from today! And Christmas Eve is six weeks from today!
Here are a few trivial Christmas facts from my warped over-zealous sense of holiday spirit:
- Christmas is 44 days away.
- Christmas is 6 weekends away.
- There are really only 33 shopping days left until Christmas because I don't shop on Sundays or Christmas Eve.
- There are three pay periods left until Christmas.
- The lights on our house go up this weekend!
- The lights on our house go as soon as the trees go up!
- Our Christmas trees go up in 8 days!
- Our Christmas trees will come down in 47 days!
- There are only 14 days until I can play my Christmas music all day everyday out of the closet without complaints from anyone!
Tomorrow, I'm heading south to Marilyn's for some project making, a movie or two, some certain nummy eating and a little store-gazing! I'm leaving as soon as the girls are off to school, for a little overnight fun and will return on Friday. I'm loving life! It is gooo-ooood! Enough said!
A man can succeed at almost anything for which he has unlimited enthusiasm.
I'm with Gracie on the sock issue. Around here we call them cutsie tootsie socks and my girls and I rarely wear plain white socks!

wouldn't that kitchen set be great for Zaylee in a couple of years! too bad you couldn't store it somewhere for her until she's ready for it!

If I were local I would totally buy that kitchen from you. i have been scouring craigslist here, but haven't found what I want yet. Noelle "helps" me so much in the kitchen I figured it was time for her to get her own.
*ha ha. I just read the above comment and said what she said almost word for word. Creepy.

You've got me in the Christmas spirit already! :) Raegan is very excited about it this year too which has helped me be more in the mood. I can't wait to see her little face when she sees that "Santa" has left her the pink bike she is asking for! Love the little kitchen- if I was local I would totally buy it from ZJ but I'm afraid the shipping would cost way too much to get it here. I think she could easily get at leat $50- $75 for it though considering the original price, the shape it's in, and the inclusion of dishes and food. Good luck to her! :)
