First of all, I was remiss in thanking everyone for the emails and FB messages asking about my family in North Carolina. They rode out the storm in style with nothing but some wind and rain. From what I was told, there were a few trees down, but all was well. Thank you for your thoughts and concern!
And, DRUMROLL PLEASE!!!!! I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!! I just got a text that said, "Check your email." I checked my email and there was Liza's itenary for the trip to North Carolina! She's bought her ticket and definitely coming with me! WOOHOOOOOOOOO! I think that I woke Doug with my excitement when I called to bawl and say thank you to Buddy and all the lucky stars that made it possible! Her new boss even brought it up to her before Liza had to ask. I'll fly to Phoenix and we'll fly the rest of the way together, round trip, life is SO DANG GOOD!!! AND on top of that, I got a Facebook message today that my great aunt (Granddaddy's sister) is going to NC today. I wrote back, hoping that she'd still be there in two weeks and she will! So, it's going to be a lovely reunion with Dad, Aunt Sue, my cousin Kent's family, Aunt and Great Aunts and second cousins that I've not seen since I was a little girl, but remember so so well! I'm slightly excited about this! To begin the countdown... we can't count today because it's over and we can't count tomorrow because it's here, and we can't count the day of or the day before... oh my heck! I need to pack!
We had the most delightful neighborhood gathering for Family Home Evening tonight. There were almost a hundred people there in all at the City Center Pavilion. It was great to see friends from "the old ward" and catch up on everyone and everything. Loved it! A huge potluck dinner (most of which I just enjoyed looking at) and lots of gabbing. The kids were all in the creek and the playground, the grown-ups went from one circle to another just visiting. A perfect summer evening! Loved loved loved it!
I took a few pix of Miki after she'd played in the sprinkler. She's getting so big and she's so brave! No fear at all!
Afterward, I walked home alone, just because. The sun was going down, people were just turning their lights on. Perfect, I tell ya. I thought about the ladies that I've grown so close to over the years and how it's so odd that we can now be in totally different wards and stakes and school boundaries, yet, we see each other so rarely now and pick up right where we left off as though we had just had a game night yesterday. That's one thing that I love about my friends! They are more like family!
While taking a few pictures, I snapped one of my Doug and the "other" Doug Corbridge. I've shared before that there are three Doug Corbridge's in the United States. We happen to live on the same street with one of them for the past 13 years, were in the same LDS ward and are friends. And we're not even related for generations! The Dougs are two of a kind... quiet, gentle and kind men of integrity with two very very chatty social, creative wives. I adore them both and it was the highlight of my evening to visit with them for a bit! Dorothy, the "other Doug's" wife and I almost share the same birthday and we usually have a birthday lunch together each October. It's also one of the highlights of my birthday each year! I heart Doug and Dorothy!
And there was one more very large happy excitement in my life today, but it will have to wait because it's not mine to share yet! Life is always full of so many surprises and happenings... they aren't always great news like today's, but it's what keeps us on our toes and growing. I'll take the bad with the good because in the end, it's all good! Enough said!
The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.
