We were up at at 'em at 5:55 this morning and the babes weren't the least bit tired. I was heartbroken for Gracie when she woke up with a huge spiderbite on her cheek! I think it bothered me more than her, because she was pretty cool about it. These dang spiders at this time of the year. We sprayed two weeks ago but they are still coming out of the woodwork. All I can say is EEWWWW!
They had a great first day of school. ZJ is thrilled to have her favorite teacher but very disappointed that most of the kids from last year's class are in another class. Quayd was excited to see old friends. In our school district, they go K-5, then 6-7, then 8-9 and then high school is 10-12. So, for the past two years, he's been separated from elementary school friends. He was most excited about one of his little female friends, who he couldn't say enough about how she'd changed. They'd been best buds in 4th and 5th grade. He still couldn't believe it was her. Cute. He also thought it was pretty cool to see his cousin, Adam and spend time with him. "He's a ninth grader! How cool is that!" Gracie was more interested in telling me about her "amazing" Language Arts teacher. I think that it will be a good year! YAY!
Here's Quayd's "running out the door to school" pose.
Gracie was just tickled that her curls worked out. Details forthcoming.
And here's ZJ's, "Look! I'm a glamour queen!" pose.
It was dark when they left for school, so no front door poses like all of the years before. I had about two seconds of sadness as they left, but I was more concerned about the buses and who left when. After they were all gone, it hit me that my baby is in her last year of elementary school. We're hitting the hard years. I say a prayer every time I think of this... that they will remain the wonderful little beings that they are today! I do have to mention that my favorite part of our morning routine was the kiss goodbye and saying "Make Good Choices!" I love the smile and "We will!" that comes with it!
I made the most of my day, starting with a nice long walk, then a nice long nap! I'm sleeping in stages between Doug getting up at 4, the babes up at 6 and me going to bed at midnight. I may have to make some changes to my own sleep patterns. I canned and cleaned and studied my lesson, never leaving after my walk and confession... after my shower, I put on a robe and did everything in it until just before the babes got off the bus. I wasn't going to be seen, so why not! I earned a day of lounging around.
I went for a short second walk tonight while Doug and the babes dried out the bottom of the pool. I absolutely love this time of year in Cache Valley!
Oh, more good news! Buddy got a second job at the University that he'll be attending! So, things are falling right into place for he and Liza. I'm very proud of them both.
That's it for tonight. This will be interesting... Doug doesn't work on Fridays now, so we'll have the day together. I'd had two other tentative plans but Doug's plans always take the front seat. I get to spend time alone with him. Life is good!
The question isn't whether we will die, but how do we live?
Wonderful pics of your kids going back to school! Here in Canada, kids go back to school after Labor Day weekend but we just got back from visiting family in California and their kids went back to school already. Now I have to organize over 1,000 pics and read your blog entries from the last 3 weeks! I will be busy and also I have to start thinking Fall decor and Fall clothes!

Our schools do not start until the day after Labor Day. Can't wait to have some "alone" time with my hubby! Your kids look cool. I would say cute, but they would probably be offended. lol! Hope it's a great school year for them. :-)
