And then, it rained some more! And the it poured some more. Right over the window wells. Until they were full. And then it poured some more. Right into Quayd's bedroom. Down his wall. Onto his carpet. Across the floor. And his room was so clean. Now... not so much. Carpet ripped up. Furniture moved. Closet emptied on to the top of his bed. In the middle of the room. I couldn't reach Doug. Danny came to the rescue. Doug's brother is one of my heroes! He spent the day vacuuming water, building a new windowwell, cleaning up the mess. We heart Danny! The weather man, tonight, called it a monsoon. Seriously, this was a Florida tropical type rain, not a Utah rain. Almost 2 and a half inches. And then, the rain went away and it was a spectacularly beautiful afternoon. Tonight, he's predicting more thunderstorms, but thanks to Danny, we're a bit better protected than we were! All I can say is "WHOA!"
The best moment of the day, regardless of thunderstorms and flooding and achey tummies was when Dad called from the hospital to tell me that his doctor had just told him that he is CANCER FREE!!! He sounded so great! We had a happy cry together. The next happiest moment was telling the babes. They were so excited! Several times today, I remembered the conversation in my cousin's office when Ronda told Dad, "Buddy, you need a Plan B." At that point, Dad had no intentions of fighting the cancer with treatments and my trip to visit him was to say goodbye. And now, we're counting the days until Liza and I go and visit him together! HAPPINESS! This, in my opinion, is a direct answer to many many many prayers! Thanks to all who joined in!
While Danny was outside working away, I baked some cookies for him to take home to his family and snitched one tiny small cookie. It was almost instantly that my body reminded me NO!! I'm learning quickly what works and doesn't work for me. I guess I should call that a blessing. Maybe in the morning when I'm feeling better!
A dorky moment... I have to record these moments for a good laugh at myself every now and then. I was setting the August tablescape this past weekend. I was on the phone with Mom when I realized that I needed a bright orange candle. She said she had one, so ZJ hopped on her bike and raced down (five houses) to grab it for me. (The kids' favorite thing is to run to Nana's for this or that because Nana always has treats waiting for them.) Zeej returned with the candle. Still gabbing with Mom, I sat my iPhone (on speaker) down on the table to try to unwrap the candle. I needed scissors to unwrap it. I walked around the corner, down the hall and into my gallery. I was in the gallery when I realized that the phone was still in the living room and I was holding the orange candle to my ear. I was cackling all the way back down the hall while Mom laughed at my laughing. I'm a dork. PS. Glad that we don't have to walk around carrying candles all the time instead of iPhones! As Zaylee would say, "Silly Grammie!"
Oh! I wanted to remember to mention that Connie corrected me about the steak marinade. It's half vinegar and half soy sauce. We did it with straight soy sauce. Trust me, Connie knows best! She's the best cook I know!
Buddy and Liza now have Doug's trailer to start loading and packing. One week from tomorrow, they move. She took ZJ on their last date this afternoon ~ Chili's, Harry Potter and some time doing hair. Liza gave ZJ a ton of cute little hair accessories. I won't think about them moving today. I'll think about that next week.
Tomorrow is one of my favorite days of the year! Seriously! Denise and I are going in for our annual mamograms. I write this every year, but it's truly one of our favorite days. The ladies at the hospital remember us from year to year because we go in laughing and come out laughing even harder every year. If you're over 40, find a friend and make it an annual date! It's healthy! It's a good thing! It's a riot!
It's cool outside tonight. Amazing how Cache Valley evenings turn "fallish" on August 1st. It will be no time before we're putting away the capris and sandals and pulling out the sweaters, talking canning and thinking about "that one holiday"! Life is good!
A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.
Great news about your dad! Bless the Lord! I did the marinade with soya sauce only and it was OK, next time I will add vinegar tough. Thanks Connie and thanks Sophia for letting us know.

What happy news about your Dad, so glad to hear it!!!
Did I miss it, what causes your tummy problems? Did you get an answer? Hope you're doing better.
