First, Amy asked for my zucchini bread recipe. I tried one a few weeks ago and it was okay, but , no sooner than she requested the recipe, my sister-in-law, Anne sent this recipe today. This was a very tasty bread that she'd made for our family reunion a few weeks ago. Everyone loved it and asked for the recipe, so, Amy, here ya go!
Carrot/zucchini/banana Bread
Sift together:
2 c flour
2 c sugar
2 t cinnamon
2 t soda
1 t salt
Cream:
1 c oil (these days I'm subbing applesauce)
4 eggs
1 c grated carrots
1 c mashed bananas
1 c chopped zucchini
Mix together and fill 3 bread pans ¾ full. Bake 45 min @ 350.
Now, I wanted to share a proud mommy moment. Last Sunday, Quayd was asked to teach the lesson for his quorum the next week. I was proud that he'd said yes and figured that we would spend all week working on it. However, life got in the way. We discussed it a bit on Sunday afternoon, then again Tuesday night after Scouts. But, it never came up again. On Tuesday night, I'd suggested that he share lessons from "the brother of Jared". Quayd, immediately, went downstairs and got ready for bed. But, before heading to bed, he pulled out some dramatized scripture tapes that we've had for 35 years. He listened to the story of the Brother of Jared every night this week. I had no idea.
On Sunday morning, very early, he came upstairs, dressed in his suit and said, "Mom, do you think I could borrow those gold spray painted rocks you had from your lesson a while ago? Do you want to hear my lesson?" I panicked! I'd spaced it! Lo and behold, my son, who I just adore I might add, had studied and prepared the lesson himself. I was stunned! He then proceeded to share the story and tell me what he'd gathered from the story... how we should be like Jared and have that kind of faith, how we should do things on our own and then ask Heavenly Father for His help... he went on. I was so amazed!
Doug went with him to the class and heard him teach the lesson. Doug said that he had the boys attention and did a great job. It was definitely a proud moment for us both... more that he'd prepared himself than how or what he taught. He's a growing boy.
I had to wonder tonight though, how a boy who could have been that together on Sunday morning could be so 13 at the dinner table! ;)
Another giggle... Today, Kelly called. We chatted for a minute and then I mentioned, "I did tell you that we'd painted the house, didn't I?" "You did? What color?" And then she said, "Great. Now how will I know where you live?" I cackled out loud! She was teasing. (I think?) Funniest thing was that Liza called me after work and asked, "Mom, Kelly was teasing, wasn't she?" Kelly, Kelly, Kelly. Ya gotta luv that girl!
I'm mostly packed. I did check out Amazon tonight for a new book and got my blood pressure up. Why is it that I bought a Kindle to get better pricing on new books and now Kindle books cost more than new hardbacks!? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! NOT amused!
I have a few errands tomorrow and then laundry, some baking and I'm ready to go! I. AM. SOOOOO. EXCITED! Liza and I made plans of who'd bringing what tonight. HAPPINESS! I get to see my girl in less than 62 hours!
Tomorrow, the winning crock pot recipe! Can't wait to share!
Life is good! Really, really good. Enough said.
Laughter is by definition healthy.
Your son is an amazing boy but then he also has amazing parents who thought him how to make the good choices. I bought the Nook last month, so far I am happy with it but I haven't ordered any books recently.

Ok, it isn't a Kindle, but Audible Books, wow. I love it, I got a Droid smartphone specifically because I got an Audible app. You get two credits a month for about $22.00. Most books cost one credit each. Instead of reading, you get to listen to the books, which allows you do all sorts of stuff: cook, clean, craft, paint. I love it! You get addicted to certain narrators, Davina Porter is my favorite. Well, It is better than TV. Best of all, no stress on your eyes. Have fun on your trip and be safe.

There are some good online digital libraries. And if you have a friend with a kindle you can use lendle to share your books. I think I have paid for one book in the time I've had my iPad.

That Q-man is amazing. If you are proud, think how a HF is feeling...having watched him study every night and come up Sunday prepared. He had great parents on both sides of the veil, don't you think?
Oh and yes! The prices of these digital books are outrageous. I have the Nook app for my iPad ... mainly for the newest Stephen King venture...but the book prices?! Forget it...I'll tote along a hard copy. Anytime. Anyplace. Plus, I personally NEED the feel of the paper as the pages turn, the crinkle the binding makes when it's first opened...or opened anytime from the library's much used shelf, and the sight of dust on the book that calls to me...not to dust but to reread those tomes which are worth reading again.
