Today, I sent off my boy to his first Youth Conference. He was excited for the adventure but probably not as nearly as excited as I was.
I teased him that he'd hear this sad sad wailing tonight in the middle of the night. When his friends would ask what was that awful noise, it would be me, sobbing that my boy was growing up so quickly! Then, I went through the times he would hear that wailing..."Mom, Can I borrow the car keys?" "Mom, I'm going to Prom." " Mom, I'm sending in my mission papers." And then his mission companions would hear that wailing from the MTC in Provo. He just grins. Oh, he's getting too big too fast! I heart this boy more than words can say!
Youth Conference was the first big youth activity/event that I remember as a teen after joining the LDS Church. Lots of great speakers and classes, activities and fun. Memories that I'll never forget. I remember being with friends Beverly, Heidi and Sandy, at the University of Miami Campus, spending the night in the dorms and all sorts of crazy antics that teenage girls could muster up... LOVE this memory! Gee, I'm going to have to dig out the old photos!
We're doing Kabobs on the grill with the B's tonight and then heading back home for Doug to get some sleep. He's working six days a week right now, but informed me that this will end at the end of July. That means the money is great, but the summer fun is limited. It's all good as long as he is okay with it. I say often, I do love having a husband that's so willing to work hard to provide for his family!
The rest of our weekend will be quiet and tame... Doug working, Quayd away and the girls are just staring at the pool, dying to get in. The water is 56 degrees. I'm thinking that will be a few more days.
Life is good!
Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer.
wait just a derned fast minute little lady. did you bother to tell Quayd how I was sent to chaperone the chaperone (you) that year...how the cops pulled us over before we even left the county? how we got into ..what? a water fight? A friend fight? Did you tell him how to really have fun...i bet not!

On this picture, it looks like Quayd is going to drive... Soon, he will take his driver's license and mom will be worried each time he asks to borrow the car!! Have a great weekend!
