This very well may be my longest post ever. BUT. Liza will only turn 30 once! This one's for you, Liza-Lu-Lu! Happy Birthday!
I sent Liza the birthday interview questions and had her answer them at her leisure yesterday, rather than try to catch her for an hour on the phone. I can not describe how big the grin on my face was as I read her answers! I've added my two bits in red. Oh my gosh, there is no word in the universe to describe how much I love this daughter of mine! I read her responses and then thirty minutes later, came back to read them again. Only the second time, I wept. Seriously. I adore this girl. My life would not be complete without all of the joy she brings me. We laugh together, we cry together. She was my older sister in the pre-existence, I'm certain. Doug walked in as I was adding photos below, saw my tears and said, "You don't love her, do you?" Honestly. There. Are. NO. Words. (sniff-sniff!)
What is your favorite song? Pearl Jam ~ The fixer. Pearl Jam rocks! (There was that time that Liza called me from her car and asked, "Is it wrong to pray to win Pearl Jam tickets?" I told her that I didn't think Heavenly Father cared much one way or the other that she would win Pearl Jam tickets, but that prayer is a good way to go for anything, even if you don't get it. I wasn't really encouraging, but I wasn't discouraging. We hung up the phone and I couldn't NOT say a prayer for her, as well! She won the tickets, but I think what mattered more was that she learned that Heavenly Father hears ALL of our prayers and that her mom prayed too for such a trivial thing too.)
If you could have one super-power, what would it be? Super mom, or to be Samantha from Bewitched, wiggle my nose… Sound effect included. (She has a cute nose and she can wiggle her ears too... she could start a new trend for Bewitches.) (Supermom is the best power imaginable!)
What was the last chore you did? Dishes
What's your favorite food? Pregnancy Cravings you mean?...Chocolate milk, anything Lemony
What's the nicest thing you've done for someone in your family lately? You’ll have to ask Buddy if I am nice. (No, Lizard, I don't have to ask. You inherited your dad's "niceness".)
What makes you mad? Stressing over money. :/
Where would you like to go on vacation next year? I hope we can fit at least one trip to Utah in. California or Hawaii never hurts, but probably won’t happen. (With Baby A on her way, from here on out, I can only hope for one of those locations!)
Who's the smartest person in your family? Buddy, he knows how to fix stuff.
How are you like your dad? I'm just mellow and we both think alot.
How are you like your mom? I like to have fun and we have the same eyes. I am going to be a mom just like her! (HAPPINESS!!!!!!!)
What's one thing that your dad had that you'd like to develop? He is quick to figure out percentages. (He is, indeed... 38% of the time!)
What is one thing about your mom that you would like to develop? I am excited to get my Bosch so I can start cooking more like her. (Liza's birthday/Christmas gift this year is a Bosch Kitchen Mixer. We decided that she's made homemade bread like the pioneers for the past few years. With a new baby, she won't have time to stand and knead the bread any longer!)
What's one thing that Dad always said to you? He'd always sing "I love my Snowflake so much!” He always asks what’s going on with me, or how I am feeling or what was the last book I read.
What's one thing that Mom always said to you? You’re going to be a Mommy! (I wish there was an emoticon or acronym for Grandmother jumping up and down squealing in delight!) GJU&DSID!!!
What's one thing that you and Dad did together that you'll always remember? One time we were riding our bikes in the Logan Middle school parking lot, and he told me to grab his had so he could slingshot me. I didn’t know what that was, and he gave me a boost on my bike that I wasn’t expecting, it scared me, so I biffed it big. He felt real bad and said he did it with the scouts all the time. (I am not a scout dad.) (When I read this to Doug, he felt really bad all over! Liza said that she remembered lots of good bike rides too!)
What's one thing that you and Mom did together that you'll always remember? We were going from one store parking lot to another one across the street. I didn’t want to put my seat belt on for that short of a drive. We were at the light, and the light turned green, and you wouldn’t budge. I was telling you to go, and you wouldn’t, you turned on the hazards on the van, and even the lady in the car behind us got out to see if we needed help. I was soooo embarrassed. You also bribed me to get A&W when I wouldn’t/couldn’t swallow my medicine. Mmmmm. A&W. (Liza, you will understand bribery very soon, my dear. And about that light... I never go through that intersection that I don't grin about it. She DID finally buckle up though!)
If you had a million dollars, what's the first thing you'd buy? A boat and shoes, I have said that answer since I was in high school, I can’t think of anything else that I would want.
How do you know that I love you? You got me a Bosch!!!
What's your favorite cereal? Strawberry frosted mini wheat’s, honey bunches of oats!
What's your favorite TV show? Grey’s Anatomy
What's your favorite vegetable? Peas or Asparagus. I tried brussell sprouts this year, not too bad!
What personal item that you would never give away? My wedding ring
What's your favorite game? Backgammon (Liza, I taught Uncle Alan how to play while I was in the hospital in labor with Dale. Maybe I should arrive a day early and we could play while you are in labor with your first baby too!)
What's your favorite book? Dunno
What food would you eat every day if you could? Your rolls! (Buddy says hers are better than mine!)
If you could choose a different name, what would it be? :/
What's the first thing you want to show your friends when they come to your house? Anywhere that is clean. (She alphabetized her spices, color-co-ordinates her cleaning rags, hangs her silverware on a rack instead of tossing it into a drawer. She's got the organizing gene!)
What's the scariest thing you've ever done? I am pregnant, what was I thinking!?! (I'm thinking, "AND WE CAN'T WAIT!!!)
If you could eat at any restaurant for the rest of your life, where would it be? Juniper Inn
What's your favorite candy bar? Big hunks, and York Peppermint Patties
What's the last thing that you did that you were proud of? I almost have all my thank you cards done!
What's your nickname? Lizard-lu
What's the best age to be? 326
What's your favorite holiday? Christmas!
What's the best present you ever got? I love all the diamonds that Buddy has bought me. My wedding pictures are still the best gift I ever got. I can’t wait for my Bosch!
What's your greatest word of wisdom at age 30? Say yes!! (Unless it’s illegal.)
Whew!!! Love you!
Best birthday interview ever! Liza is definitely our most adaptable child. She's been the baby, the oldest at home, the only child, the big sister, the little sister, and always, she's our favorite! (wink-wink!) AND NOW, she's going to be the mama! Happy Birthday, love, it's going to be your BEST YEAR EVER!!!
And now, just for Liza, since we aren't together and Amazon doesn't do treasure hunt service, I went on a hunt through 38 scrapbooks to find Liza's"life in pictures". Way over the top for a blog entry but, hey, you're only 30 once!
August 1983 ~ Just a few weeks old. A beautiful baby! Can't wait to see if Baby A looks like Liza!
Four years old. She was every bit the angel that she looks to be in this photo. Doug still tears up when he speaks of the prayers of this innocent little girl. And WHAT was I thinking, crimping her four year old's hair!? Bad mom!!!
Six years old, playing one of the three children in USU Theater Production of "Merchant of Venice".
Two pix from when she was eight. The first was on the day of her baptism. Also, this was when she began taking piano lessons and continued them until she was a junior in High School and she managed to only have one recital in all those years. How she bribed her teachers to never tell us about recitals I'll never know! BUT. To this day, she plays for us at home and herself. Beautifully, I might add. But, it's not a talent that she's ever shared. In fact, Liza's nightly unwinding at the piano when she was a teen was the thing I missed the most when she moved out on her own.
Liza at the awkward age of 12! Doesn't she look like Zeej!?
Fourteen. Cute as could be! Just before braces!
Sweet 16. Braces, contacts and a big surprise for her birthday.
Straight off the scrapbook page. Here's Liza opening the last gift in her treasure hunt... the key to her very own car!
Graduation ~ 2001 Isn't she gorgeous! LOOK AT THAT MILLION DOLLAR SMILE! (Actually, it was just a few thousand dollars but it LOOKS like a million!)
Nineteen and off to Jackson Lake Lodge, Wyoming to work for the summer!
For Liza's 21st Christmas, we gave her a huge surprise... a Pier One Sausolito Secretary Desk. She had mentioned it months before in the summer and never dreamed we'd buy it for her. Since she was living on her own, in a "closet" (a whole other long story), it was time to start thinking about "serious" gifts. This photo is one of my favorites of all time. She was never more shocked and we all burst into tears. One thing about Liza ~ she is THE most fun person to give a gift to in the world.
After dating more than her fair share of very cute boys, Liza met the love of her life in the early fall of 2004. She and Buddy were married on March 26, 2005 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Those eyes. There are no words.
She became a decorator and homemaker when they built their first home in Logan. Little did they know that their future would lead to a new life in Arizona! As much as we hate to admit it, it's been a great decision and choice in their lives.
She's worked hard and accomplished a lot, from managing a business to becoming a Senior Bank Teller, to becoming a great wife and cook, to becoming strong in the gospel, an awesome teacher/Young Womens Leader and a thoughtful, fun and loyal friend to many. She's wiser than words and uses that wisdom to benefit those around her in so many ways. (She's also a dog lover! Just ask Oops!)
She's been the best sister imaginable to the babes and the bigs.
And as an amazing auntie to Zaylee, she's learned many parenting skills already! Zaylee adores her!
And now, at 30, she's going to be a mommy!
We could not have asked for a better daughter! She's amazing and wonderful!
Love you, Liza! Happy Thirtieth!
YOU'LL ALWAYS BE OUR ANGEL!
