Oh my gosh! I went back and reread this in the afternoon and discovered a thousand errors! I was typing a sentence, then brushing Zaylee's hair, typing a thought, then showering, and so on. No wonder it was such a mess! Sorry!
A few weeks ago, good friend, Myra called and said that she wanted to do something for Zaylee... something special. Recognizing that Zaylee left the home that she was living in before she came to us left her with, literally, nothing to her name, Myra decided to put share one of her most outstanding talents and created a quilt of her very own for Zaylee. One thing that has been interesting since she arrived is that Zaylee keeps all of her precious belongings in her backpack and carries it (or wants to) everywhere we go. Very telling.
Last night, Myra came by, along with her husband, Todd, to deliver Zaylee's beautiful handmade quilt. They also thought she needed something to cuddle with inside her new quilt. Zaylee promptly named the cute pink turtle, "Kileah. Not Kaleah, [my] sister that was in Mama's tummy. Kileah is this snuggly turtle." Zaylee could not wait to get ready for bed so that she could snuggle with Kileah in her very own quilt. It's a beautiful star pattern that has Zaylee's name written all over it! Not literally, but it's her favorite colors and she loves the star and it's just perfect! Something that is totally hers! I was in tears as Myra gave it to her. We are so blessed to have such amazing friends!
After taking pix of the quilt giving, Quayd sat down at the piano to show his Todd, who is also our awesome Young Mens President. (I can't say enough good about him.) Quayd has been working on a piece by ear for most of the summer. (I confess, I've banned him from the piano on some days after hearing the same 12 notes a hundred times. BUT. It's finally coming together to the point that it's not hard to listen to anymore.) Todd listened, and musician that he is, he joined Quayd at the piano to create a little more to go with the tune. WOW! Quayd was so excited! I failed to mention that Todd also came with a gift for Quayd... a CD of soundtrack/scores for background music to movie. Todd is one of Quayd's heroes in life. Again, blessed to have such great leaders, but even more important, friends!
Also, yesterday, Quayd came home from school and showed me a sweet note that someone had anonymously written to him and had sent to his English class in school. I didn't ask permission to share the note, so I'll just share the thought... it was a thank you to Quayd, written in a teen handwriting, expressing gratitude for him holding the door open for others as they enter the Seminary Building. It went on to say, "You set a very good example when you do that and everyone at this school appreciates your kindness and positive attitude about everything." We showed Doug last night and his response, "Quayd, I'd rather hear a note like that than see a 4.0 anytime." Amen! PROUD MAMA MOMENT!
Grace stayed home from school again. She's had a pretty sore throat. I think she could have gone yesterday, but she wanted to rest for one more day before going back. Since she's my child who LOVES school, I figured she really didn't feel well enough to go. However. I needed to drive to Ogden and go to the Federal Building to the Social Security offices. I have been putting it off for five weeks. I had to get it done. I asked Grace and she was happy to join me. We got dressed quickly and made a spontaneous trip down. While down, we did a walk-through at Taipan. Grace said that she wanted to try someplace new to eat, so we went to Zupas, so that she could try to expand her tastes. She wasn't a fan of the pesto cheese sandwich, but she, loved the cauliflower soup. Zaylee told Grampie last night, "We had flower soup and it was weally good! We should have it at home every day!" I wish I'd have had the camera when she tasted her chocolate covered strawberry! WOW!!!! Grace and I had a nice visit on the drive. I was glad to have the task checked off but even more glad for the time we had together.
It's a busy schedule today for Zaylee. I'm hoping to squeeze in some sneaky Christmas shopping and to get my fall decor up around the house. I failed to mention that Monday was the one year anniversary of the chili's door falling on my foot. Nat and I went for lunch to Chili's. We didn't mention it, but we joked that lunch should have been on the house. Life is good. Especially with amazing and wonderful friends and people who write sweet notes and recognize the strengths of others!
Kindness is more than deeds.
It's an attitude, an expresssion, a look, a touch.
It is anything that lifes another person.
