Family Home Evening last night was another adventure in my "blonde" world! We planned to go to the Pumpkin Walk with the B's. So, while at the grocery store, getting the treats and makings for a tailgate picnic, I also called Liza to invite her and Buddy. When Liza asked how much it cost this year, and I said it was free, she asked, "The CORN MAZE is FREE?" I said, "No, the Pumpkin Walk is tonight, the Corn Maze is next week." She asked, "The pumpkin walk starts already? Really?" "Yes, the big sign on the highway said the 21st, so tonight's the opening night." "Um, Mom. Tonight's not the 21st. It's the 18th." And so. Change of plans! I called Wendy and because of a "contract" with one of her kiddos, they couldn't do the Maze until next week. Long story short... Liza and Buddy joined us for a tailgate dinner party atthe cornmaze for FHE. We'll do the pumpkin walk with the B's next week.
The corn maze was fun stuff and we chose the perfect night for it because it was 68 degrees out as the sun was setting. Not to hot, not to cold. Perfect. Fried chicken dinner. Lots of treats. And then about 2 miles of wandering through the cornmaze. Tons of fun! Here are some more pix!
ZJ eating the apple "strings" (peelings from the apples sliced on the Pampered Chef Apple Peeler/corer/slicer, our most favorite tool at this time of year.)
Liza and Buddy... Buddy teasing as usual!
As we got going into the maze and had to make our first little backtrack, we all stopped for Buddy to give a little Family Home Evening message with a gospel principle... Life is like this maze. We have lots of choices in life and sometimes we make the wrong one. But. If we make a wrong one, we can turn back (repent) and make a better choice the next time to go along the right path. This mama hearts Buddy! He's such an awesome addition to our family!
A very nice family that we passed here and there throughout the evening exchanged family picture taking with us. No do-overs, but, hey, we're all in the same shot.
Smack dab in the middle of the 17 acre maze was a tower. We made it to the tower about 2/3 of the way through the maze. I love watching Liza and Buddy together. Five years later, they still act like newlyweds, holding hands and hugging. Hey! So do Doug and I! We both have great husbands!
It really was a fun Family Night. We'd have loved to have had Kelly and Zaylee join us but unfortunately, Zaylee was in the hospital ER on Sunday with pnuemonia. After two days of antibiotics, she's doing much better, but still needed to be resting and inside at night. I think we may have found a new tradition, so they can join us next year!
A few ramblings before today's trick or treat!
- I posted on Facebook but wanted to post it here too. Someone sent me a subscription to Better Homes & Gardens and I'm so excited! I've loved every page of the first issue. Whoever you are, THANK YOU!!!! I LOVE IT!
- I'm busy this week, focusing on two things...a Halloween Party (details to come) and my Relief Society lesson for Sunday. I love this week!
- Denise and I will meeting for breakfast this morning then a few errands to complete and I'm home for the day! I'm still catching up from being at the ranch and I've got a party to prepare!
- I heart RSVPs!
A trick: Having a fall party? Think ORANGE! Visit your local thrift store and look for all things orange. It's amazing, the things you will find, that at any other time of the year, you'd probably never even consider looking at, but then with a Halloween Party in mind, it's perfect! Check out this awesome dish that I picked up for a dollar while looking for a Harry Potter-type robe at the local thrift shop. It took a good washing, but it's got "spooky bowl" written all over it!
A treat: Here's a slushy punch that I'm making today. I've not actually tried it yet, but if it's as big of a hit as Liza tells me it is, we'll be enjoying it at our upcoming Halloween Party. Liza has talked about this punch repeatedly, so I'm anxious to try it!
Spooky Slush
4 cups sugar
4 cups water
Bring to a boil. Add: 1 small package lime jello and dissolve.
Add 1 large can Pineapple juice and 5 cups of water. Divide liquid mixture into two 9x13 pans. Cover and place in the freezer until frozen solid. When ready to serve, add 2 liters of Sprite. (I'll be floating some dry ice in it to spook things up a bit, too!)
Don't expect to find life worth living; make it that way.
